The UTS Australian Football Club is excited to announce Kaizaad Mehta as its new President heading into the 2017 season.
Mehta will be the ninth representative to hold the position, taking over from outgoing President Justin Kurenda who stepped down last week due to work commitments.
The announcement was made at The Bats’ Annual General Meeting on Wednesday night.
A talented Premier Division player, Mehta arrived at the club in 2013 and has been vice-captain for the past two seasons.
The 33-year-old was also named runner-up Best and Fairest in 2014 and has been a popular member of the playing group since he first signed on.
Mehta said he was excited to jump straight into the role and held high expectations for the upcoming season.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to take on this responsibility and look forward to enhancing the reputation of this great football club,” Mehta said.
“The Bats have been such a big part of my life since moving to Sydney and this is a great opportunity to give something back.
“It’s a real honour to contribute to the club in a professional capacity and I’m confident we can build on the foundations of our predecessors.
“There has never been a better time to be involved with the club, particularly with (senior coach) Nic Fosdike and the committee driving a successful culture.”
Mehta, who works in corporate finance, thanked Kurenda for his dedicated service to the club over the past two seasons.
“There’s no doubt the club is much better off because Justin served as president and I’ll do everything possible to follow in his footsteps,” Mehta said.
“He leaves the club in great shape and on behalf of the players, sponsors, supporters and committee we wish him all the best.”
It was a ground-breaking year for the UTS Bats both on and off the field with the club’s Premier Division side competing in its first finals campaign.
Meanwhile the club also celebrated three premierships in Division One, Division Four and Women’s Division One.
The presidency announcement comes at a perfect time for the club with pre-season training commencing for all grades next Monday, November 14.
