‘Got me a marlin of a nomination for Panda Award 2012′
By Dan Flanagan
Nominations for Round 1 of 2012 panda go to both John Whealans and Barry Holland for the theft of two costumes of stage dancers whilst on complimentary Access All Area’s pass at the Stereosonic music festival.
After posing for photos by a photographer both at the event, and later a bar, the photos were submitted to the band’s Facebook profile (with almost 500,000 members) and consequent articles were written in national publications including Pedestrian, Adelaide Confidential not to mention making the front page of MX (with said photos). This incident was also discussed on ABC’s Triple J radio.
Despite calls from the band manager and disgruntled fans of said band (Empire of the Sun), only one of the costumes was returned. Some fan’s remarks published on social media forums seemed wittier than the prank itself. Initial speculation suggested that the images were nothing but a hoax. This allegation was found to be untrue.
“Look, it’s Alan from the Hangover”
“I don’t know either of them, but pretty sure they are both pisces”
“Something fishy about this!”
A sincere apology was given to all affected by both the boys. Stay tuned, as there is a possible report to follow on an upcoming episode of A Current Affair according to Channel 9 journalist and 2012 Premier Division B&F, Tom Steinfort.
Since the event, there have been lucrative offers made for brand endorsements with such brands as John West Tuna, Angelakis Bros Seafoods and even a hosting of an original kids fishing show to be produced by Fremantle Media.
Could Ladies Day see it’s inaugural Tuna fish throwing competition at half time, or were the lads steering the ship towards an Under The Sea UTS Bats Theme Party in 2012?
